How to Measure Feet for Crockett & Jones Shoes
A practical walkthrough of the C&J measurement method, including socks, paper placement, length, width, and what to send for fitting help.

To measure your feet for Crockett & Jones fitting assistance, follow the brand's own process and record both length and width for both feet. Keep those measurements together with the details of shoes you already wear comfortably.
The steps below paraphrase the Crockett & Jones fitting guide, reviewed in our October 14, 2026 research. They describe that manufacturer's remote fitting process; they are not a universal measurement standard for every footwear brand.
Prepare your socks, paper, and wall
Wear the socks you intend to use with the shoes. Place A4 paper against a wall, then position your heel against the same wall. Have a pencil and a metric ruler available before starting.
Using the intended socks keeps the information you send tied to how you plan to wear the pair. If you measure with different socks later, label the new measurements so the two sets do not become mixed.
Trace and measure each foot
- Trace the foot while holding the pencil upright.
- Draw a rectangle around the outline, touching the longest toe and both sides.
- Measure length from the paper's wall edge to the toe line.
- Measure width across the rectangle between its side lines.
- Repeat for the other foot and record both sets in metric units.
Keep left and right measurements separately labeled. Do not send an unlabeled number such as “27” and expect the recipient to know the unit or which foot it describes.
Send measurements with a specific shoe question
Crockett & Jones asks customers to send both sets of measurements for fitting assistance. Its guide also advises contacting the brand when the indicated size differs from the size normally worn. The manufacturer can address the particular shoe you are considering using the information you provide. See the full fitting instructions.
A useful message includes the model you want, left and right length and width, intended socks, and an existing pair that fits well. Label that reference pair's size system and width instead of giving its size number alone.
Use the chart as a reference
The guide contains separate men's and women's conversion sections. Choose the relevant section and read the whole row. A chart reference does not establish that a particular last will suit your feet, nor does it show that every listed size is available in a particular model.
Our UK-to-US shoe size guide explains how to keep conversions separate from fit decisions.
Save a repeatable fitting record
Before ordering, retain the date, measurement method, units, socks, and any manufacturer response. Add your known shoes to My Shoes, including notes about where they fit well or feel tight.
Measurements become more useful when someone can understand how they were taken. A clear record also makes future fitting conversations easier: you can provide the same baseline instead of reconstructing it each time.
Put your fit knowledge to work
Use shoes that already fit as a starting point for your next pair.
